Week 1 Entry

Well here goes nothing…

Since this is my first entry of the journal I would like to start out by saying that it kills me to even face the fact that my daily actions are harming and I’ll even go so far as to say slowly killing the earth. I very much love the Earth and all of its inhabitants, I care a great deal about the well-fare of our environment and try to do my share to keep it clean, however I am still incredibly guilty of committing some not so Earth friendly actions every day. As much as I’d like to pretend that I’m not part of the problem, I know that the small amount of discomfort I experience through facing my bad habits will be for the better in the end.

This week it has been pointed out to me by a friend that I have the bad habit of leaving the light on in my room as I travel about the Residence Hall or as I conduct my morning routine and continuously travel from my bedroom to the main room and/or the bathroom and back again, leaving all the lights on in the process. I had no observation of this until it was politely pointed out to me and now I can’t help but notice every light on all over campus. Looking at my ecological footprint as calculated by Footprint Network, “Services” is listed as my highest footprint factor at a whopping 43%. I imagine the services section includes electricity use, water use, etc.
